Background

The prostaglandin F2-alpha receptor (or PTGR) is a member of the Prostanoid Receptor subfamily and a member of the G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) family. Along with various other prostaglandin receptors, Prostaglandin F Receptor mediates the effects of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha ). Alternative mRNA splicing gives rise to many isoforms; Isoforms 2 to 7 do not bind PGF2-alpha but are proposed to modulate signaling by participating in variant receptor complexes. Some of these isoforms have been proposed to form heterodimers.
