• Application Notes: Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry frozen: Stains brain tissue showing selective labeling of neurons and stronger staining of axons and dendrites. Stains both the cell bodies and dendritic trees of neurons throughout the brain. Purkinje cells are stained more strongly than granule cells. In Western Blot this concentration was determined by indirect blotting using fresh total rat brain extract or enriched microtubule protein preparations. Predicted molecular weight: 350 kDa. Optimal dilutions and concentrations should be determined by the end user. Although not tested this antibody may be useful in Microarray and Immunocytochemistry.

Background

This protein belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family. The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The product of this gene is a precursor polypeptide that presumably undergoes proteolytic processing to generate the final MAP1A heavy chain and LC2 light chain. Expression of this gene is almost exclusively in the brain. Studies of the rat microtubule-associated protein 1A gene suggested a role in early events of spinal cord development.
