Recombinant Human IFN-alpha 2 Protein Summary
Description |
A recombinant protein with a 16 residue His tag and corresponding to 182 total residues of IFNA2.
Source:E. coli The recombinant protein migrates with an apparent molecular mass of 24 kDa in SDS-PAGE. |
Specificity |
NovActiverecombinant human IFN-alpha-2a is produced in the endosperm tissue of barley grain (Hordeum vulgare), that exhibits up to 50 times less protease activity than E.coli or mammalian cells. Barley seed is void of any human or animal viral contaminants that could jeopardize your cell culture.

Background
Interferon alpha 2a (IFN-alpha-2a) belongs to class I interferons. Interferons are produced by the cells of the innate immune system as a part of the defense response to foreign agents such as viruses, parasites and tumor cells. Interferons (class I) bind to a specific cell-surface receptor leading to the transcription and translation of genes coding for proteins having antiviral, antiproliferate and antioncogenic effects, as well as modulating the immune response. IFN-alpha-2a inhibits viral replication within host cells, activates natural killer cells and macrophages and increases antigen presentation to T-lymphocytes. It has been used in the treatment of hepatitis C and various cancers, including leukemia.
