Background

This antibody recognizes the eta polypeptide of the CCT chaperonin molecule complex. The intact CCT complex is composed of eight polypeptides in a double ring structure. Unfolded polypeptides enter the central cavity of the complex and are folded in an ATP dependent manner. CCT is important within cells in aiding the folding of proteins including actin, tubulin and the VHL tumor suppressor protein. Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene, but only two of them have been characterized to date.
