Background
Prostaglandin E receptor EP1 is a member of the Prostanoid Receptor subfamily. Along with several other receptor subtypes (EP2, EP3, and EP4), it mediates the diverse biological effects of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). PGE2 has been implicated in numerous processes, including immune response modulation, male erectile function, cervical and colon cancer, induction of labor, control of blood pressure, bone resorption, and asthma. Prostaglandin E receptor EP1 expression has been documented in kidney and kidney vessels. ESTs have been primarily isolated from kidney, pancreas, and thymus libraries.
