The c-Myc protein was discovered in patients with Burkitt lymphoma and has since been associated with numerous cancer types including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. The c-Myc protein is activated via mitogenic signals in the MAPK/ERK pathway including Wnt, Shh, and EGF. The c-Myc protein regulates cellular changes including increased production of nucleis acids, proteins and lipids that are required for rapid cellular proliferation.
