Antibody database

Human derived antibodies are widely used in disease research. These tend to be associated with cancer cell lines, such as the MCF7 breast tumour line, for which we provide both antibodies and whole cell lysate. The cells that are generated are identical in every respect to the originals, meaning reproducible results can be obtained years after the original cell lines were harvested.

At Novus Biologicals, we have over 9,000 products on our transduction antibody database. Signal transducers are proteins that facilitate movement of signals, i.e. molecules that cause a reaction, from outside to inside the cell, where they cause changes to cellular function and activity in either the cytoplasm or the nucleus. Transduction pathways are usually activated by complex enzyme cascades, and new proteins are constantly being developed. Thus, our antibody catalogue is constantly being updated.

The CD44 family comprises a number of immunologically similar glycoproteins, which are expressed on the membranes of endothelial, mesenchymal, leukocyte and hepatocyte cells. The CD44 family has a number of functions. CD44 antibody assays have shown some that some isoforms play a role in abnormal gene splicing in human cells.

Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and their corresponding marker antibodies are often used in cancer research, since cell-renewal is a feature shared by both ESCs and cancer cells. The drawback is that there is no clear evidence of a transcription program common to both cell types. However, in a study (Wong et al. 2008), it was described how comparison of human and murine ESC-like gene modules had isolated a catalog of 335 genes, which could be used as a "core ESC-like gene module" for tumor studies.

Since DNA-damage can lead to the development of tumours, these antibodies are widely used in cancer studies. Cyclin dependent kinases (CDKs), which interact with regulatory cyclins, are essential to the progression of the cell cycle. However, tumours can develop if CDK/cyclin disruption leads to unregulated cell reproduction. Therefore these two proteins are carefully regulated.

IgG is the most prevalent antibody in mammalian tissue, and therefore a major number of the proteins on an antibody database are of this type. The other classes that are studied are IgA, IgM, IgD and IgE. Depending on the tissue and disease being studied, polyclonal and monoclonal versions of all these antibodies are also produced against specific antigens.
