Background
rRNA (ribosomal RNA) forms a major structural component of ribosomes which provides a mechanism for decoding mRNA information into amino acids/proteins through the process of transtlation. rRNA plays a key role in accurate positioning of mRNA as well as peptidyl tRNA, and also plays a structural role in peptidyl transferase activity by generating scaffolds where ribosomal proteins are assembled. rRNA is generated inside nucleolus, which is localized in nucleus of the cells and contains genes essential for encoding rRNA. Defective rRNA may implicate in certain pathologies, for example: decreased rRNA expression has been observed in subjects with myelodysplastic syndromes, and abnormal rRNA expression has also been linked to Alzheimer's disease. Our rRNA (Y10b) antibody recognizes both the large as well as the small subunit of rRNA from all eukaryotic cells and with is applicability in ICC/IF and IP techniques, it provides a valuable molecular tool for rRNA research.
