The GALNT10 gene codes for a member of the GalNAc polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases. The enzyme catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked (mucin-type) oligosaccharide biosynthesis. It creates four isoforms: isoform 1: 603 AA long, nearly 69 kDA; isoform 2: 541 AA long; nearly 62 kDA; isoform 3: 366 AA long; 41 kDA; and isoform 4: 276 AA long: approximately 31 kDA. The GALNT10 gene has been studied with its contribution to thyroiditis. It interacts with genes MUC7, MUC1, GALNT1, GALNT12, and PTCH1 in the metabolism of proteins, mucin type O-glycan biosynthesis, and in post-translational protein modification.
