Background
Microtubules, polymers of alpha and beta tubulin subunits, form the mitotic spindle of a dividing cell and help to organize membranous organelles during interphase. Katanin is a heterodimer that consists of a 60 kDa ATPase (p60 subunit A 1) and an 80 kDa accessory protein (p80 subunit B 1). The p60 subunit acts to sever and disassemble microtubules, while the p80 subunit targets the enzyme to the centrosome. This gene encodes the p80 subunit. This protein is a member of the AAA family of ATPases. [provided by RefSeq]

I have a question about your Katanin p60 antibody, cat# H00011104-B01P. Your data sheet indicates that it detects an about 36 kDa (transfected 293T) and a 50 kDa (NIH/3T3) protein species. Are these the 60 and 37 kDa isoforms of Katanin p60?
- This antibody is raised against the shorter isoform 2 of this protein, O75449 (https://www.uniprot.org/uniprotkb/O75449/entry) It looks like isoform 2 is similar to isoform 1, but missing parts of the sequence. I believe from the tests on endogenous lysates this antibody can detect the larger isoform. In the transfected lysate the lysate was transfected with the smaller isoform 2 sequence, which is why it picks up the lower molecular weight band. This antibody should pick up both isoforms.
