Jumonji (JARID2) is a nuclear protein that participates in the negative regulation of cell growth. JARID2 is required for neural tube formation and is essential for normal heart development and function. In addition, Jumonji is a part of a group of proteins characterized by a novel structural motif, the JmjC domain, which is implicated in chromatin regulation through histone demethylation.
