HS6ST1 (Heparan-sulphate 6-O-sulfotransferase 1) is a single-pass type II transmembrane protein that catalyses the transfer of sulphate from PAPS (3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulphate) to position 6 of the N-sulphoglucosamine residue of heparan sulphate. It is expressed in foetal brain and liver and is thought to play a significant role in axonal guidance through sulphation of heparan sulphate proteoglycans, with HS6ST1 expression mirroring that of Slit1 and Slit2.
