HMBOX1, also known as Homeobox-containing protein 1, is a 47kDa 429 amino acid protein with four isoforms produced by alternative splicing. The gene can be found in the nucleus and the cytoplasm where it acts as a transcriptional repressor. Current research on HMBOX1 is being conducted in relation to bronchopulmonary dysplasia, immunodeficiency and prostatitis. HMBOX1 is linked to the MRNA splicing, nuclear transport, stem cell differentiation, tube formation and transport pathways where it interacts with SUMO2 and ENTPD2.
