ADAM2, or Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 2, contains a 82 kDa and a 80 kDa isoform, and is involved in the adhesion of the sperm-egg membrane during fertilization. Current research is being conducted to determine the relationship between ADAM2 and a variety of disorders and diseases, including infertility, epidiymitis, Alzheimer's disease, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. ADAM2 has been linked to the integrin-mediated signaling pathway and processes involving cellular adhesion, through which it interacts with CD9, CLGN, CRYAB, DNM1, and ITGA9.
