| Description | Streptavidin is purified from the bacterium Streptomyces avidinii. It is a tetrameric protein that is composed of identical subunits, with the tetramer having a molecular weight of approximately 53kDa. Each subunit binds one biotin molecule with a very high degree of specificity and affinity. The Kd for this interaction is in the region of 10-15M. Fluorescein is a synthetic organic fluorophore, with an excitation wavelength of 494nm and a maximal emission of 520nm.
