Background
IgE is an immunoglobulin that plays a critical
role in the immune response to parasitic infections and in the development of
allergic reactions. Like other antibody
classes, IgE has the same molecular architecture that includes two heavy chains
and two light chains, but its heavy chain contains an additional domain
compared to IgG heavy chain. IgE binds to its receptor, Fc epsilon RI, on the surface
of mast cells and basophils, triggering the release of histamine and other
mediators that cause the symptoms of allergic reactions (1, 2). The recombinant
human IgE-Fc protein is a valuable tool for researchers studying the mechanisms
of allergic reactions and the development of new therapies for allergic diseases.
It can be used in a wide range of applications, including ELISA assays, Western
blotting, functional assays to study the
binding of IgE to its receptor, Fc epsilon RI, and the downstream signaling pathways
that are activated upon binding (1, 2, 3). In addition to its research
applications, the recombinant human IgE-Fc protein has potential therapeutic
applications in the treatment of allergic diseases. Therapies that target IgE
have been shown to be effective in the treatment of allergic diseases such as asthma
and atopic dermatitis (4).
