DRAQ5 (TM) is supplied at a concentration of 5mM: the 50 ul size allows for 250 Imaging assays and 100 Flow Cytometry assays whereas the 200 ul size allows for 1,000 Imaging assays, 6,600 HCS assays, and 400 Flow Cytometry assays. DRAQ5 (TM) can be diluted in culture media (e.g. RPMI 1640) and physiological buffers (eg PBS, Hankss, etc.) and mixed with fixatives such as formaldehyde.
Packaging, Storage & Formulations
Store at 4C in the dark. Do not freeze.
Products are shipped at ambient temperature, but on receipt packs should be stored at 2-8C. DO NOT FREEZE. DRAQ5 (TM) can come out of solution when frozen and it is difficult (but not impossible) to get it back into solution.
Alternate Names for DRAQ5 (TM)
Deep Red Anthraquinone 5 (DRAQ5 (TM)) is a cell-permeable dye belonging to the anthraquinone family that intercalates with high affinity to double stranded DNA (dsDNA). This far-red emitting fluorescent DNA dye is used for cell cycle analysis and nuclear staining. No measurable binding to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been detected and DRAQ5 (TM) shows negligible binding to RNA.
The excitation wavelength maxima of DRAQ5 (TM) are 600 nm / 646 nm but it can also be suboptimally excited by the 488nm (blue laser) for flow cytometry. Its emission wavelength maximum is 697 nm when intercalated with dsDNA. The fluorescence signal is proportional and stoichiometric to the quantity of nuclear DNA present in the cell.
