Description
SLC26A7 is a Cl-/base exchanger expressed in the proximal tubule and thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidney. It is present in endosomes, and its targeting to the basolateral membrane is increased in hypertonicity and potassium depletion. The trafficking to the cell surface suggests novel functional upregulation of SLC26A7 in states that are associated with hypokalemia or increased medullary tonicity. SLC26A7 is thought to contribute to bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate and oxalate transport in the nephron segments.
