PRMT8 codes for a protein with a length of 394 amino acids, weighing approximately 45 kDa, and has a shorter isoform with a length of 385 amino acids and a weight of approximately 44 kDa. This gene codes for a membrane-associated argining methyltransferase that helps mediate the formation of MMA and aDMA as well as mono- and dimethylate the EWS protein. Current studies are being done on several diseases and disorders relating to this gene including coronary heart disease, ataxia, sarcoma, and malaria. PRMT8 has also been shown to have interactions with COIL, HNRNPA1, SYNCRIP, and PRMT1.
