Description

CAP-H is a subunit of the heteropentameric condensin I complex. Condensin participates in the condensation of chromosomes during cell division by facilitating positive DNA supercoiling and knotting by topoisomerase I and II and proper segregation of sister chromatids. CAP-H is a non-SMC regulatory subunit of the condensin complex that may have an important role in condensin’s ability to maintain structural integrity of centromeric heterochromatin during mitosis. Alternate names for CAP-H include condensin complex subunit 2, non-SMC condensin I complex subunit H, barren homolog protein 1, chromosome-associated protein H, hCAP-H, XCAP-H homolog, NCAPH, BRRN, BRRN1, CAPH, and KIAA0074.
