MRPS12, also known as Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S12, consists of a 138 amino acid isoform that is 15 kDa, and is involved in the synthesis of proteins within the mitochondria, though its specific purpose is unknown. MRPS12 is currently being used in research with several diseases and disorders, such as autosomal dominant nonsyndromic deafness, esophageal carcinoma, mycobacterium tuberculosis, esophagitis, pneumonia, carcinoma, malaria, and sensorineural hearing loss, to determine its relationship with each condition. MRPS12 interacts with SPINK7, C14orf1, UNC119, CRMP1, and LRIF1 during the process of translation.(provided by RefSeq)
