Description

Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are the most complex type of voltage-gated ion channels from with regards to both function and structure . They have many functions such as: regulating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction and cell volume. In Drosophila four sequence-related potassium channel genes have been found: shaker, shaw, shab and shal. Each has one or more human homologs. This gene encodes a member of the shab-related subfamily. It is a delayed rectifier potassium channel and its activity can be affected by some other family members.
