Description
The enzyme coded for by the GALNT11 gene catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked (mucin-type) oligosaccharide biosynthesis by transfering an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to a serine or threonine residue on the protein receptor. One isoform exists at 608 amino acids long with a mass of nearly 69 kDA while the other is only 202 amino acids in length and is approximately 23 kDA. The GALNT11 gene interacts with MUC4, GALNT1, GALNT3, GALNT5, and GALNT12 in the metabolism of proteins and post-translational protein modification.
