Neurodegeneration is a broad term that refers to any process that causes damage to the neurons of the brain or spinal cord. When a neuronal population is compromised, it is atypical for the neurons to regenerate themselves, leading to neurodegenerative disease. The study of neurodegeneration aims to unfold the mechanisms behind neurodegeneration and subsequent disease.
