Immunogen | Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin -1 of Staphylococcus aureus. |
Specificity | This product detects the bacterial super-antigen toxic shock syndrome toxin-1, also known as TSST-1. TSST-1 is an exotoxin secreted by S. aureus, which binds simultaneously to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II and T-cell receptor (TCR) molecules expressed on antigen presenting cells (APCs) and T-lymphocytes, respectively. This can result in the massive release of inflammatory cytokines leading to toxic shock syndrome (TSS), and can ultimately lead to multi organ failure and death. |
