Heat inactivated bacterial cells of Salmonella enteriditis D, paratyphi A and typhimurium B.
This antibody is reacive against Sero Groups A, B and D, Antigens 1,2,3, 6 and 7. Hybridoma clones have been derived from hybridization of Sp2/0 myeloma cells with spleen cells of Balb/c mice immunized with heat inactivated bacterial cells of Salmonella paratyphi (group A), Salmonella typhimurium (group B) and Salmonella enteriditis (group D). Binding constants (Ka, M-1) of MAbs with LPS of A, B and D groups are as follows: LPS A = 2.1 x 10^9, LPS B = 1.1 x 10^9, LPS D = 6.5 x 10^8, LPS E = 1x 10^6.

This antibody detects Salmonella enteriditis D, paratyphi A and typhimurium B. It has slight reactivity with Salmonella anatum and Selandia. It does not react with other Salmonella, E. coli, or Klebsiella.
The genus Salmonella is a member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. The genus is composed of Gram negative bacilli that are facultative and flagellated (motile). Salmonellae possess 3 major surface antigens; the H or flagellar antigen (phase 1 and 2), the O or somatic antigen (part of the LPS moiety) and the Vi or capsular antigen (referred to as K in other Enterobacteriaceae). Salmonellae also possess the LPS endotoxin characteristic of Gram negative bacteria. This LPS is composed of an O polysaccharide (O antigen) an R core and the endotoxic inner Lipid A. Endotoxins evoke fever and can activate complement, kinin and clotting factors.
