Background
Polio (acute poliomyelitis, infantile paralysis) is caused by a virus, which may infedt the nervous system and cause lasting paralysis. Poliovirus is a single-stranded RNA virus and a menber of the Picornavirus family. There are three separate types of the virus: type 1, type 2, type 3.
