| Immunogen | Parainfluenza Virus 3 haemagglutinin protein. |
| Specificity | NB100-63037 specifically recognizes an epitope within the haemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) protein of parainfluenza virus 3 (HPIV-3), an enveloped single-stranded RNA virus of the Paramyxoviridae family. Parainfluenza viruses are genetically and antigenically divided into the four types HPIV1-4, with HPIV-1, -2 and -3 being major causative agents of lower respiratory infections in the young and immunologically vulnerable. The HN protein of all HPIV, is a 69-82kDa surface glycoprotein which mediates the attachment of the virus to the host cell, through binding to cell surface sialic acid-containing receptors. The receptor-cleaving neuraminidase activity of HN is essential for further infection by HPIV, by ensuring the release of progeny virions. |
