Background

The structure and function of Monkeypox Virus A29 protein is less studied, but it is a homolog of Vaccinia virus A27 protein.Multiple functions of A27 protein: 1) Bind heparin on the cell surface to mediate cell fusion. 2) Required for IMV trafficking on microtubules and IEV formation. 3) Anchor for packaging A26 protein into mature viral particles. 4) Key target for neutralizing antibody.
