• Specificity: This product is specific for melatonin and exhibits the following cross reactivity's: 5-methoxy-DL-tryptophan 25% N-acetyl-tryptamine <0.1% 6-hydroxy-melatonin <0.001% N-acetyl-tryptophan <0.1% N-acetyl-serotonin <0.01% Melatonin is a serotonin derivative produced by the pineal gland that is thought to be involved with the regulation of circadian rhythm. Melatonin occurs naturally in animals, plants and protozoa, known chemically as N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine, structure is preserved across species and the rabbit anti melatonin antibody is expected to recognize melatonin from all species in which it occurs.
