Lymphocytes Antibody (MsGp2) Summary

Immunogen
Nylon wool adherent B cells
Specificity
NB100-64632 reacts with an antigen on the majority of T and B lymphocytes and thymocytes, although the antigen is not expressed by germinal centre cells of the lymph node. MSgp2 reacts strongly with epidermal Langerhans cells, giving a superior profile than anti-MHC Class II antibodies on these cells. MSgp2 has the same distribution as monoclonal antibody CT4 which detects an antigen reportedly involved in the organ non-specific trafficing of guinea pig lymphocytes. However, unlike CT4, MSgp2 does not functionally inhibit lymphocyte adherence to high endothelial venules in vitro.

Background

Lymphocytes have receptors for antigen and confer specificity on an immune response. Lymphocytes express receptors with varying affinity for the antigen in question. Langerhans Cells are present in the skin and process efficiently antigen but cannot present it to T cells. Langerhans cells have been shown to pick up antigen in skin and carry it via afferent lymphatic vessels to lymph nodes. Recognises an antigen expressed by Langerhans cells, intermediate dendritic cells and interdigitating cells in T cell areas of rat lymphoid organs. Monocytes and macrophages in various organs and tissues are also stained.
