Clone 8B9 reacts with botulinum toxoid type E when tested in direct ELISA with type E toxoid coated directly onto the microtiter well. No or very little reaction was seen with toxoids type A and type F.

Background

Clostridium botulinum is a gram-positive, anaerobic motile bacteria normally found in soil. C. botulinum is a potential threat to both humans and animals through contaminated food because of the potent neurotoxin they produce. C. botulinum bacteria are categorized within 7 strains A-G based on the characteristics of their toxin. A, B, E and F strains are known to cause foodpoisoning in humans.
