| Immunogen | C. jejuni Penner 2 |
| Localization | Whole cell |
| Specificity | NB100-62426 is specific for Campylobacter jejuni. Some reactivity has been observed with Penner 4 +/- and with Penner 10.
C. jejuni is a curved, rod-shaped gram negative bacterium which is a member of the Campylobacteraceae family. They are motile with a polar unsheathed flagellum that results in a corkscrew like motion. They occur primarily as commensals in humans and domestic animals, particularly in chickens where gut temperatures of 42oC are optimal for growth.
C. jejuni are one of the most common causes of human diarrhea in the world. Food poisoning can be severely debilitating, although rarely life-threatening as the disease is self limiting. Campylobacter infections are also associated with postinfectious complications including arthritis, Reiter syndrome and Guillain–Barre´ syndrome. |
