Obesity: Disease Bioinformatics

Obesity is a disease in which an affected individual has an abnormal amount of body fat that causes their body mass index (BMI) to be higher than thirty. Having Obesity can greatly increase a person’s risk of developing Type II Diabetes, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, and various pressures on joint health. Having Obesity can even decrease the expected life span of a person. Typically, Obesity is caused by having an excessive intake of calories and by a lack of exercise. As such, weight loss to treat Obesity is often achieved through maintained diet and exercise. Other approaches to weight loss include prescription weight loss drugs and surgery.
