As the most common cancer in humans, Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the epithelial cells and spreads to the surrounding tissues and organs. Carcinomas make up a very broad category of cancers. Some of the most common types of carcinomas are basal and squamous cell carcinoma and invasive ductal carcinoma. Basal Cell Carcinoma, caused by UV exposure, is the most common form of skin cancer and very rarely metastasizes; therefore, it is not usually life threatening. Squamous cell carcinoma, also caused by a lifetime of UV exposure, is the second most common form of skin cancer and can be life threatening if it goes untreated. Invasive ductal carcinoma is the most common form of breast cancer that starts in the milk ducts and has spread to the surrounding tissue.
