MRPS16, or Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S16, consists of a 137 amino acid isoform that is 15 kDa, and is involved in the manufacture of proteins within the mitochondria. Current research is being conducted on the relationship between MRPS16 and several diseases and disorders, including combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency, mycobacterium tuberculosis, corpus callosum, pneumonia, lactic acidosis, Alzheimer's disease, and encephalomyopathy. The protein has not been linked to any pathways, but has been found to interact with ICT1, PHLDA3, SLX4, MRPS14, and MRPS2.
