Brucella abortus causes Brucellosis, an infection that leads to spontaneous abortion, premature calving and infertility in cattle (and other domestic animals; goats, pigs, cattle, dogs, etc). Brucellosis is passed on to humans by drinking infected unpasteurised milk or from contact with discharges from cattle that abort their foetus.
