The antibody reacts with both human natural and recombinant MCP-1 in ELISA. MCP-1 is a member of the CC subfamily of chemokines. MCP-1 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine which acts both as an activation factor and as chemokine for monocytic cells. The antibody inhibits the biological activity of natural and recombinant human MCP-1. The antigen specificity was assessed by ELISA. The antigen specificity was further assessed by immuno- precipitation and Western blotting.
Note: Not all species have been tested for usefulness with this product. Only those species listed have been tested. We cannot make any guarantees about additional reactivities which may or may not occur.
The antibody is useful for neutralization of human MCP-1 in bioassays.

This chemotactic factor attracts monocytes and basophils but not neutrophils or eosinophils and augments monocyte anti-tumor activity. It has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or atherosclerosis. It may be involved in the recruitment of monocytes into the arterial wall during the disease process of atherosclerosis.
