programmed cell death 8 (apoptosis-inducing factor)
Programmed cell death protein 8
Background
Apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) is a phylogenetically ancient mitochondrial intermembrane flavoprotein. AIF induces caspase-independent peripheral chromatin condensation and large-scale DNA fragmentation when added to purified nuclei. Upon apoptosis induction AIF translocates to the cytosol and the nucleus.
