The olfactory system is the sensory system that is used for smelling. This system is often divided into two parts: the main olfactory system and the accessory olfactory system. The former detects volatile, airborne stimuli and the latter senses fluid-based stimuli. Olfactory receptors initiate electrical transduction to olfactory receptor neurons, which in turn stimulate the olfactory bulb.
