Vinculin Antibody (FB11) Summary

The antibody reacts with the Vinculin antigen.
Focal Adhesion Marker
In immunoblotting the antibody identifies a 130 kD polypeptide. Monoclonal antibody to vinculin is derived from the hybridoma produced by fusion between myeloma cells and Balb/c spleen cells. Vinculin purified from human smooth muscle was used as an immunogen.

Vinculin is a cytoskeletal protein associated with the cytoplasmic faces of both cell-cell and cell extracellular matrix adherens type junctions. It functions as one of several interacting proteins involved in anchoring F-actin to the membrane. The sequences of chicken, nematode and human vinculin have been determined. It has been shown that a sequence of molecular interactions might be involved in the transmembrane assembly of adhesion plaques. In the assembly of adhesion plaques, the beta subunit of integrin binds to talin. Talin binds to vinculin that interacts with alpha actinin and possibly with itself. Since alpha actinin binds to and cross links actin filaments, vinculin represents a key element in the transmembrane linkage of the extracellular matrix to the cytoplasmic microfilament system.

  1. Do you have any 100 coda or bigger controls?
    • I can recommend a couple of high weight antibodies that are conserved in most samples. Please verify the presence of the protein before using as a loading control. PARP1 or PARP is approximately 113kDa, and you may view the products we offer to PARP using this link.
