Application Notes
This antibody can be used in Immunohistochemistry-FFPE and Western Blot. By Western blot, this antibody detects a band of 19-22 kDa (reduced), which corresponds to the predicted molecular weight of VEGF. Not tested in other applications. Optimal dilutions should be determined by the end user. The observed molecular weight of the protein may vary from the listed predicted molecular weight due to post translational modifications, post translation cleavages, relative charges, and other experimental factors.

VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a homodimeric, disulfide-linked glycoprotein involved in angiogenesis which promotes tumor progression and metastasis. It exhibits potent mitogenic and permeability inducing properties specific for the vascular endothelium. Of the four isoforms of VEGF, the smaller two, VEGF165 and VEGF121, are secreted proteins and act as diffusible agents, whereas the larger two (VEGF189 and VEGF206) remain cell associated.

  1. Why is the molecular weight of VEGF different from the similar antibody, for some companies the the molecular weight is 40KD)?
    • I can't comment on another company's antibody because I don't have any information about their products. I can tell you that VEGF is expressed in a variety of isoforms and is subject to various post-translational modifications that influence its apparent molecular weight in an SDS-PAGE gel compared to the theoretical molecular weight.
