Background

The monoclonal antibody GD2.F4 reacts with human TLR1. Toll-like receptors (TLR) are highly conserved throughout evolution and have been implicated in the innate defence to many pathogens. In Drosophila Toll is required for the anti-fungal response, while the related 18-wheeler is involved in antibacterial defences. In mammals, TLR identified as type I transmembrane signalling receptors with pattern recognition capabilities, have been implicated in the innate host defence to pathogens. Mammalian responsiveness to some bacterial products may be mediated by combinations of TLRs, for example a co-operative effect is observed between TLR1 (CD281) and TLR2 (CD282). TLR1 is expressed by monocytes and dendritic cells. The monoclonal antibody GD2.F4 is specific for TLR1, it does not recognizes TLR2, TLR4 (CD284) or TLR4 in association with MD2.
