Recombinant Human Neuregulin-1 alpha/NRG1 alpha Protein Summary

Description
A single, non-glycosylated biologically active polypeptide chain corresponding to 65 residues of NRG1.

Source: E. coli

Amino Acid Sequence: SHLVKCAEKE KTFCVNGGEC FMVKDLSNPS RYLCKCQPGF TGARCTENVPMKVQNQEKAE ELYQK

Preparation
Method
Novus' biologically active proteins are stringently purified to provide only the safest and most highly effective proteins available. This protein was expressed in E. coli, purified by HPLC, QC tested by SDS-PAGE and Western Blot and validated on appropriate cell lines for bioactivity. All HPLC and bioactivity data is provided for your assurance.
Details of Functionality
NRG1 Protein is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using serum free human MCF-7 cells is less than 40 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 2.5 x 10^4 IU/mg.

Background

Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is in humans encoded by the NRG1 gene. It is one of four proteins belonging to the neuregulin family that act on the EGFR family of receptor. Neuregulin 1 is produced in numerous isoforms by alternative splicing, which allows it to perform a wide variety of functions. All NRG1 isoforms contain an EGF like domain (alpha or beta splice variant that differ in their C terminal region) that is required for their direct binding to the ErbB3 or ErbB4 receptor tyrosine kinases. NRG1 is necessary for cardiac development, structural maintenance, and functional integrity of the heart. NRG1 and its receptor family ErbB can play a beneficial role in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF) by promoting survival of cardiac myocytes, improving sarcomeric structure, balancing Ca2+ homeostasis, and enhancing pumping function.
