MMP-2 Antibody [PE] Summary

A synthetic peptide made to an internal region of the human MMP2 protein (between residues 400-500) [UniProt P08253]
This antibody is specific for pro and active forms of MMP2. It was tested in WB againsst recombinant mouse MMP-2, MMP3, MMP7, MMP9, and MMP16 wherein it did not react with other MMPs.
Immunogen affinity purified

Application Notes
This MMP2 antibody is useful for Western Blot, Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluoresence, and Immunohistochemistry on frozen and paraffin-embedded sections. In Western Blot, bands can be seen at approximately 72kDa (proform) and 62kDa (active form). Antigen retrieval is not required for IHC. The observed molecular weight of the protein may vary from the listed predicted molecular weight due to post translational modifications, post translation cleavages, relative charges, and other experimental factors.
Theoretical MW
74 kDa

Reactivity Notes

Guinea Pig reactivity reported in scientific literature (PMID: 26982283)

MMP2 (Matrix metalloproteinase-2, gelatinase A, 72kDa gelatinase, 72kDa type IV collagenase), is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzyme family. Loss of negative growth regulation and high invasive potential are neoplastic traits often associated with abnormal expression of matrix matalloproteinases. MMP2, the signaling mechanism for cells to begin migration, triggers the movement when it splits laminin-5 and exposes and integrin-binding site on this component of epithelial basement membrane. The changed form of laminin was found in tumors and in tissues being altered. The activated form of MMP2, however, is not found in benign tumors. Thus detection of the enzyme is a possible early indicator of tumor activity.
