Recombinant Hirudin Protein Summary

Description
A biologically active protein to Hirudin.

Amino Acid Sequence: VVYTDCTESG QNLCLCEGSN VCGQGNKCIL GSDGEKNQCV TGEGTPGPQS HNDGDFEEPE EYL
Preparation
Method
Novus' biologically active proteins are stringently purified to provide only the safest and most highly effective proteins available. This protein was expressed in Pichia Pastoris, purified by HPLC, QC tested by SDS-PAGE and Western Blot and validated on appropriate cell lines for bioactivity. All HPLC and bioactivity data is provided for your assurance.
Details of Functionality
The biological activity of hirudin protein is determined by chromogenic assay, 1 unit is defined as the amount of Hirudin that neutralizes 1 unit of the WHO preparation 89/588 of thrombin. The specific activity is no less than 14,000 ATU/mg protein.
Protein/Peptide Type
Recombinant Protein
Purity
>95% pure by SDS-PAGE

Notes

This lyophilized preparation is stable at 2-8 degrees C, but should be kept at -20 degrees C for long term storage, preferably desiccated. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is most stable at -20 to -80 degrees C, and can be stored for one week at 2-8 degrees C. For maximal stability, apportion the reconstituted preparation into working aliquots and store at -20 degrees C to -80 degrees C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Background

Hirudin is the most potent natural thrombin-specific protease inhibitor, and is originally derived in the salivary glands of the medicinal leech. Unlike heparin, hirudin act directly on thrombin, rather than through other clotting factors. They have a high binding affinity and specificity for thrombin. Therefore, hirudin prevents or dissolves the formation of clots and thrombi, and has therapeutic value in blood coagulation disorders, in the treatment of skin hematomas and of superficial varicose veins, either as an injectable or a topical application cream.

Limitations

This product is for research use only and is not approved for use in humans or in clinical diagnosis. Peptides and proteins are guaranteed for 3 months from date of receipt.
