Background

This gene encodes a lysosomal protein which hydrolyzes the galactose ester bonds of galactosylceramide, galactosylsphingosine, lactosylceramide, and monogalactosyldiglyceride. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Krabbe disease, also known as globoid cell leukodystrophy. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq]

Limitations

This product is for research use only and is not approved for use in humans or in clinical diagnosis. Peptides and proteins are guaranteed for 3 months from date of receipt.

FAQs for Galactosylceramidase/GALC Recombinant Protein (H00002581-P01). (Showing 1 - 1 of 1 FAQ).

  1. I would like to know in which kind of cell this protein was produced (eukaryotic cells or not)?
    • All Abnova proteins are produced in a cell free wheat germ system. The proteins are not expected to be active because they do not always undergo the same post translational modifications and folding as a protein in an endogenous cell, and are mainly intended as positive controls for their antibodies.
