E-Cadherin Antibody (6F9) Summary

Isolated from Human Placenta
Epithelial Cell Marker, Adherens Junctions Marker
One of the epithelial cell adhesion molecules, E-Cadherin, plays an important role in the formation of cell-cell contacts in epithelia irrespective their origin form ecto-, meso- or endodermal tissue. This early adhesion event between epithelial cells is a prerequisite for the assembly of all elements of the junctional complex. Furthermore, E-Cadherin plays a crucial role in the maintenance of the epithelial junctional complex and is as such an important molecule in maintaining epithelial integrity. Over 90% of the malignant tumors are carcimomas. One of the prerequisites for the release of carcinoma cells from the primary site might be a defect in intercellular adhesion mediated by the absence of E-Cadherin expression. Therefore, the expression of E-Cadherin might be an important parameter for the determination of the invasive potential of epithelial neoplasms, and for the transition of a benign to a malignant neoplasm. Application Notes
The antibody reacts specifically with the 120 and 80 kD ARC-1 protein in Western blotting furthermore it is useful for frozen sections and cell suspensions. For use in staining of frozen sections and cell suspensions. Fixate frozen sections with acetone or formaldehyde. The antibody can be diluted 1:10 - 1:40. (Based on the Indirect method, with a normal ABC method the dilution can be 5-10 times higher, but t

Reactivity Notes

E-Cadherin, a member of the cadherin superfamily, is implicated as a key player in different cellular processes including development, morphology, polarity, migration and tissue integrity (1-2). E-cadherin is a glycoprotein with an extracellular domain that interacts with other E-cadherin molecules on adjacent cells, thereby establishing adhesion between epithelial cells. Established as a tumor and metastasis suppressor, E-cadherin expression is frequently down-regulated or extinguished in malignancy which strongly correlates with poor prognosis (3-4). Mutations in E-cadherin are found in gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid and ovarian cancer (5).

This product is for research use only and is not approved for use in humans or in clinical diagnosis. Primary Antibodies are guaranteed for 1 year from date of receipt.
