Background

Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain.Some glutamate residues at the C-terminus are polyglutamylated. This modification occurs exclusively on glutamate residues and results in polyglutamate chains on the gamma-carboxyl group. Also monoglycylated but not polyglycylated due to the absence of functional TTLL10 in human. Monoglycylation is mainly limited to tubulin incorporated into axonemes (cilia and flagella) whereas glutamylation is prevalent in neuronal cells, centrioles, axonemes, and the mitotic spindle. Both modifications can coexist on the same protein on adjacent residues, and lowering glycylation levels increases polyglutamylation, and reciprocally.

FAQs for beta Tubulin Antibody (NBP1-51170). (Showing 1 - 1 of 1 FAQ).

  1. Our customer want to know which tubulin (alpha or beta) is suitable for WB as the loading control in brain tissue. Could you recommend the tubulin alpha or beta as a loading control for WB in brain tissue? In case of adipose tissue, tubulin alpha is not suitable as a loading control. How about in brain tissue? Could you let me know?
    • Both beta and alpha tubulin are expressed in the brain, and either one would make a suitable loading control. Beta tubulin may give a cleaner signal than alpha, but this varies greatly. You may wish to consider NB600-936.
