Tick-born Relapsing Fever: Disease Bioinformatics

Tick-borne Relapsing Fever is a bacterial infection transferred through Ornithodoros tick bites. The Ornithodoros ticks are found in Africa, Spain, Asia, and the western United States. The main symptom of tick-borne relapsing fever is a recurring fever that may last several days and then disappear for up to a week before reappearing. Without treatment, the disease will usually resolve itself after 1-4 episodes of fever. With proper diagnosis and treatment, Tick-borne relapsing fever can be cured after approximately 10-14 days. There is no vaccine for tick-borne relapsing fever, but the disease can be prevented by minimizing exposure to ticks, especially when in rodent-infested buildings, and by wearing protective clothing and using tick repellents.
